Limousines are available for rent for a wide range of special events including weddings, birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, school field trips, prom, sporting events, concert attendance, business events, and more. Types of limousines offered include stretch limousines, SUV limos, luxury sedans and classic cars. Driving service may be one way, round trip or multilocation, and limos can also serve as a shuttle back and forth between two locations during an event. Several factors affect the cost of a limousine rental.
Many limo rental services operate with an hourly rate for their various vehicles with a minimum number of hours required to book. The reason for the minimum requirement is that when a booking is fewer than three or four hours, it is not cost-effective for a company to prepare the car with ice and beverages, properly clean the car and then dispatch a driver for just a short time. In general, the larger or more exotic the vehicle, the higher the hourly rate. For example, The Limo Guy in Dallas, Texas, charges the following rates based on vehicle, with a four-hour minimum rental on Fridays and Saturdays:
Standard limousine: $85 per hour
Stretch Hummer: $125 per hour
- Party bus: $125 per hour
Some companies have specific pricing for pickup and drop-off services, such as to and from concerts or sports games. For example, Red Rocks Limo in Denver charges $400 for drop-off and pickup at one location in a Lincoln Town Car stretch limousine that seats 10 people. These rates do not apply to prom night.
Time of day
Evening rentals generally have higher hourly rates or require a higher number of minimum hours than daytime rentals because demand is greater. Many parties, proms and other special events are held in the evening. As the number of limo requests increase, the cost for services also increases. Daytime fares can be just as high as evening rates during special daytime events or holidays when demand is high. The Limo Guy charges $125 per hour for a stretch Hummer, with a minimum four-hour rental before 5 p.m. for a total cost of $500. After hours, the minimum goes up to five hours and a $625 total cost.
Day of week
Weekend limo rentals are more in demand than weekday rentals. For this reason, the cost per hour and often the minimum number of hours required to rent increases on Fridays and Saturdays. The Limo Guy charges $85 per hour for standard limousine rental. On weekdays, the minimum number of hours depends on the location of services. On Friday and Saturday nights, the company requires a four-hour minimum rental for $340.
Depending on the rental company, the driver’s gratuity may be included in the bill or it may be up to the discretion of the passengers—always clarify beforehand. The Limo Guy sets things up so that passengers can add the tip in afterwards when paying by credit card, but the company encourage customers to tip the driver directly in cash when possible and that 20 percent is customary for a job well done.
Costs increase when the company has to provide out-of-the-ordinary maintenance or cleaning such as cleaning up vomit and repairing damage to the vehicle interior, exterior or windows. Costs vary based on the extent of the damage. The Limo Guy charges a $150 cleaning fee for extenuating circumstances. If repairs are needed, the company charges customers for all damages.
